Mintec, a British data analysis agency, announced that squid fishing was dismal, demand remained unabated, and export prices broke a record high.
According to the situation in the American market, the import price of squid per kilogram has exceeded 2.2 dollars, reaching the highest value in the past five years.
Michael Liberty, a market analyst at Mintec, said that due to the El Ni ñ o phenomenon this year, the quantity of squid decreased, and the output once fell to the bottom in the past 20 years. Statistics from January to September showed that the amount of squid caught was only 57500 tons, a decrease of 55% compared with the same period last year.
Especially in the Falkland Islands, the squid output was only 2000 tons, a sharp decrease of 99% compared with previous years, and the corresponding price rose sharply, up to 109%.
Although Argentina officials have recently advanced the squid fishing season for next year by about two weeks, it is expected to start on January 18-20 next year, and the squid shortage may improve. However, given that the squid market has been hit so hard this year, the risk of distributing squid in the next year still exists. I hope Chinese practitioners will make a careful choice.
